Portugal extends the state of emergency

By | 8 March 2021

The state of emergency, introduced in Portugal due to the high incidence of the coronavirus, has been extended until March 16. The prohibition on the movement of citizens without valid reason within the territory of this country is maintained, the entry and exit outside Portuguese territory and strict controls at border crossing points will continue to apply. At some border crossings, passenger traffic is excluded.

However, as stated in the decree of the President of Portugal, international transport of goods is excluded from the restrictions on movement. This means that routes to and from Portugal are open to professional drivers.

Additional requirements for professional drivers

Drivers working in international transport of goods should have an Employee Certificate with them (popularly known as the Green Lanes certificate, available for download in our Files and Forms section). Drivers are exempt from both being tested for COVID-19 and from the quarantine requirement upon entering Portugal.
