Latvia – mandatory PCR test for professional drivers

By | 17 February 2021

According to government websites, from 15.02.2021, Latvia requires professional drivers to have a negative COVID-19 test, performed no earlier than 72 hours before entering the country.

The only acceptable type of test is the PCR test. The test result in English, French, German or Russian must be carried with you and presented on request.

A negative COVID-19 PCR test result must be presented to drivers who:

  • plan to stay in Latvia for more than 72 hours
  • have stayed, in the last 14 days, for more than 72 hours in any of the so-called high risk countries.

You can find the list of countries recognized by Latvia as the so-called high risk here.

According to this table, Poland is currently also one of these countries. Only Iceland and the Vatican are counted among the “safe” countries.

Additionally, drivers must register in the Latvian system, available at http://covidpass.lv, to obtain a special QR code, which must be presented during the road check.
